This year at Seawork we got talking with Jaqui and Harry from Round Britain ERIB. They are undertaking a challenge where they will be taking a RIB around the whole United Kingdom… Using an electric outboard. This challenge is one of the first of it’s kind with the purpose of raising awareness to the climate crisis we find ourselves in. In their words..
“Electric propulsion systems have been around for a while and are developing all the time. Power boat users can now seriously consider transitioning to zero emission propulsion and our Challenge will allow anyone interested to come along and have a look at an electric RIB at over 40 locations around the UK and Northern Ireland.
Zero emission propulsion reduces the use of fossil fuels but also reduces water and noise pollution.“
This challenge aims to show that electric power is capable of more than we think in this current age and what a way to bring some attention to the cause.
You may wonder how will they charge along the way?
“We can charge using a wide variety of shore power connections. The larger the connection the faster the charge. Where we can, we will be charging at DC chargers which have already been installed at some marinas in the UK.”
We thought this is something worth getting behind so we chose to sponsor this challenge by providing two ULTRAlite suspension seats to protect harry in the case he encounters some serious chop.
If you would like to support or keep track of the challenges progress there is a live tracker that shows where Harry will be. You can also donate and support using the links below. Shark wishes Harry and the team the best of luck and are proud to be supporting your adventure.
